Successfully Navigating Today’s Workplace as You Prepare for the Next New Normal

John Lasky, JD

Bio:

Since 2013 John Lasky has served as Chief Human Resources Officer for Temple University Health System – a leading Philadelphia center for highest-end health care, research and education.

John’s view regarding employee engagement/commitment and health system performance is simple: they rise and fall together. Indeed, with focused lead-from-every-seat / every-employee is clinical approach, leaders create an environment that makes every team member drive clinical and patient experience evolution.

Want proof? Over the past five years, Temple’s employee engagement doubled. Not coincidently, we experienced 50+% reductions in employee turnover, grievances, disciplines and vacancies, and earned best employer awards (Philadelphia, Forbes, and HEI). That matters because at the same time Temple evolved into the nation’s #1 lung transplant center, national top 10% in academic medical center efficiency, five consecutive Leapfrog A grades (after years mired at “C”) and sustained economic viability . . . remarkable for a system in one of U.S.’s most underserved and unhealthiest regions.

Prior to joining Temple John was HR executive at Brooklyn Hospital Center and the predecessor to Allegheny Health. As an attorney he practiced with Reed Smith, advising clients ranging from Fortune 100 to small companies with visions of excellence (he was distinguished as a Pennsylvania Rising Star). He has taught graduate-level coursework at the University of Pittsburgh and lectured at Carnegie Mellon University’s Masters in Medical Management program.
